Prepress Technician

Summary of Duties – Will generate digital images and print files for digital press that comply with job and departmental specifications and procedures. Perform typesetting and platemaking functions for the Prepress Department.

Skills/Qualifications

High level of proficiency with MAC computers and Adobe Creative Suite for the purpose of creating print ready files and in-depth knowledge of (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXpress) in a Prepress environment.

Proficient with WINDOWS computers and Microsoft Word and Excel. Good eye hand coordination and able to distinguish between colors.

Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and proofing of various documents and correspondence.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assessing the digital files submitted by the customer, verifying that the files are properly formatted, assuring high quality output.

  • Create Press ready PDF’s that can be used for digital printing.

  • Modify and Manipulate data manifest files using Microsoft Excel.

  • Prepare typesetting layouts on the computer using Macintosh software (i.e., Photoshop. InDesign, Illustrator, Quark) including custom typeface styles and logos and make plates for printing presses according to customer specifications and job jacket instructions

  • Prepare data bases and press ready files using Microsoft Excel and EngageIT software.

PRESS ASSISTANT 

Summary of Duties – Responsible for packaging printed products produced on a printing press. 

Skills/Qualifications – Minimum age of 18. Good eye hand coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to use small hand tools and finishing equipment. Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and proofing of various documents and correspondence. Moderate mechanical aptitude. Some troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.  Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly. Moderate mathematical skills. Ability to use a variety of hand held measuring devices; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including metrics, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Must be able to distinguish between colors.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all packaging of printed material produced on the assigned press. Must be willing to work at a reasonable pace to keep up with the product being delivered. 

  • Review printed orders to make sure that they correspond to job jackets and are packed correctly.  

  • Review labels and shipping instructions for accuracy and deliver finished product to assigned areas. 

 

DIGITAL PRESS OPERATOR

Summary of Duties – Responsible for the operation of Digital printing press to produce high quality printed products for on-time delivery.

Skills/Qualifications – Minimum age of 18. Knowledge and proven ability to efficiently operate and maintain sheet-fed digital printing press, monitor for quality control and make required repairs and adjustments. Accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and proofing of various documents and correspondence. Strong mechanical aptitude – Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.  Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate and monitor operation of assigned Digital press to produce high quality printed products.

  • Review job jacket instructions specifically prepared for each order and set up the press for each job.

  • Organize jobs for maximum productivity to meet required ship dates.

  • Carefully review copy and plates to ensure they correspond to the job jacket.  Report and correct any discrepancies or errors.
